Focus

In order to ensure effective advisory services and build up a comprehensive knowledge base on the preparation of scientific knowledge for political decision-making, a survey of structured advisory services and established advisory bodies in Austria is to be conducted in 2025. Three selection criteria are expected to be decisive for the recording of such advisory services and advisory bodies: the independence of the advisory activity (also guaranteed by law); the existence of a political mandate for advisory services; and the scientific expertise (explicit or implicit) to be used in the context of the advisory activity.

The development of this cartography will also be discussed in this European context during participation in the European Commission’s Mutual Learning Exercise on Science4Policy, and the feedback from this can be used for further skills development.

Objectives

Descriptive recording of the bodies and structures for scientific advice to political decision-makers in Austria; exchange with the European community on this topic; development of process knowledge on political advice in the office.
