Working Group

Studying in Austria

In this working group, we address the question of how efficient studying can be facilitated at Austrian universities and what criteria and framework conditions are necessary to achieve this.

Focus

The fact that many students do not complete their studies within the standard period of study is evident in Austria. Based on this diagnosis, FORWIT proposed in its recommendation for Austria’s RTI and science policy in September 2024 that one of the objectives should be to strive for the ‘standard period of study to be the norm for students’ in Austria.

How could more efficient studying be made possible at Austrian universities? The ‘Studying in Austria’ project aims to identify optional criteria that can be used to answer this key question.

The central topics of the analysis are (1) student management and study organisation, (2) education costs, (3) study law and (4) the social situation of students.
