Objectives

• Strengthen the framework conditions to generate new scientific knowledge, open up new approaches to the arts and contribute to the prosperous development of society and the environment.
• Strengthen Austria as an STI location in order to catch up with the international leaders.
• Develop the scientific, scientific-artistic and artistic disciplines and their interfaces.
• Strengthen and expand Austria’s position in international co-operations, partnerships and value chains.
• Focus on effectiveness, excellence, knowledge, talents and skills.
• Improve the transfer of knowledge between organisations dedicated to research, science, innovation and technology development and promote the development of the arts, the economy and society.
• Raising civil society’s awareness of the role of science, research, innovation and technology development.

Tasks

• Advising the Federal Government and individual members of the Federal Government on matters relating to Austrian and European science, research, technology and innovation policy, universities and the development and opening up of the arts.
• The submission of proposals for the STI Pact in accordance with § 2 of the Research Funding Act.
• Supporting the Federal Chancellor, Federal Minister of Education, Science and Research, Federal Minister of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology and Federal Minister of Labour and Economic Affairs in analysing the implementation of the government’s current science, technology and innovation strategy (STI strategy) and in developing new STI strategies, taking into account European and international standards.
• The preparation of a biennial activity report to the Federal Government.
• The independent production of analyses and recommendations, in particular with regard to impact orientation to strengthen the Austrian research, science, innovation and technology development system, taking into account international standards.
• The support of the board of the National Foundation for Research, Technology and Development pursuant to § 11 para. 1 Z 1 of the National Foundation for RTD Act (FTEG)
• Cooperation with stakeholders at national, European and international level.
